The XLIFF standard was given birth to in November 2000. The main purpose implied is to create an interchangeable format which will act independently and will be possible to integrate into all tools and platforms. The XLIFF standard launches a new phase in localization industry. It sets the beginning of bringing the open standards into the professional business which is an active example of how the idea of making things ‘open’ should be incorporated in the localization industry.
